I'm
Gary C. Booker. I am a K-12 STEM Educator, environmental
scientist, ultralight & drone aviator, space exploration
advocate, and author. The views expressed here are solely my own.
Some
things about Me:
I
am an advocate of early exposure to flight training using
ultralights for middle school students and general aviation
and/or light sport aircraft for high school students.
I
believe that food security is an under-addressed equity issue in
public education. I have long provided snacks in the classroom
for my students and have anecdotally observed an improvement in
classroom behavior when snacks are given on a regular basis and
without conditions.
I
am an avid Hang Gliding enthusiast. I first fell in love with
hang gliding as a 3rd grader after playing Track &
Field II on the Nintendo Entertainment System and became
determined to fly hang gliders in real life. I finally got the
opportunity to do so when in April 2010 at Lookout Mountain
Flight Park, where I earned my USHPA H1 & H2 Ratings. Hang
gliding has become an essential item in my pedagogy toolbox.
Hang Gliding is one of the most inexpensive forms of recreational
aviation, making it essential to providing equitable access to
recreational flight. It's revival is in the best interests of
the public.
I
have devoted a great deal of focus towards using action research
to device pedagogy practices that specialize in assisting K-12
students with ADHD that aspire to be professional pilots.
